HIF44 float vent pipe

Post  MattEll on 5th February 2013, 10:51

Guys,
Should the float vent pipe on the HIF44 (turbo version) be blocked off, or open to atmosphere (or an open hose to ground/catch can)? Does it even matter?
Thanks!
Matt

Hey Matt,
I assume your talking about the pipe next to the fuel inlet?? In which you should block it off, it was used on the metro turbo for something to do with the standard boost controller.

You can also pull the copper pipe out and drill and tap . Then you could fit a tapered thread plug? I haven' t done myself but have seen it done.

I just have a pipe with a bolt in it ...

Thanks Benjamin.
I've read it was connected to the ECU, as you suggest.
I think it also doubles as a float chamber vent, but it sounds like that it is unnecessary to vent it:

Mine has the bolt-in-the-hose aswell - does the job!

yeah there is a tee peice trick ?something like that to help with something? dont really know .

But if everything is working fine ther is no need for it , the carby also has a float vent between plenum and carb . Make sure you gasket is on the correct way or you can cover the hole . Then engine wont run. Embarassed
